The result is that it doesn't quite succeed at being a great comic caper nor does it fully satisfy as a nail biting thriller. I would have liked to have seen Laurie fully commit one way or the other. I'm not convinced though that a chuckle here and a chuckle there is enough for me to give this novel an enthusiastic recommendation.
The plot's premise is a little flawed and, even though I know it isn't worth worrying about, there were a few plot points that I had trouble accepting.All in all - this is a pretty entertaining 3 ½ star novel. He should have made this an all out spoof or he should have toned down the witty asides and ratcheted up the suspense, making it a genuine thriller. Amusing enough, but it wears thin after a while.
For the most part, I enjoyed this novel, particularly its droll British humour. The novel won me over initially, but I found my interest wane the further I got into it. As it is, it's an entertaining diversion that isn't completely satisfying.
It's an amusing enough spy novel although it isn't outrageous enough to qualify as an inspired genre spoof and has a little too much tongue-in-cheek humour to generate any real suspense. It's a little of both but somehow, not enough of either.
I am really looking forward to his new book this fall. I really can't imagine saying anything more that what has already been written.I found this book, funny, exciting and a lot of fun. If it is half as good as this one it should be a wonderful read. I was given this book as a Mother's Day gift. I didn't even notice that the author was Hugh Laurie until I got to the end of the book.

You'll enjoy it more then House. Hey, its just a very funny novel, lots of satire, farce and wit.
Bond, James Bond. Think a very intelligent Wooster & Jeeves vis-à-vis Mister. If you're a Hugh Laurie fan, and you haven't read The Gun Seller, you're not really a Hugh Laurie fan. A gripping thriller.
